| The MASFAA Carnival of Learning will take place on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Cape Codder Hotel in Hyannis, MA. This program has always traditionally run before the MASFAA conference and is sure to be another success.
The Carnival of Learning Program’s mission is to provide middle school students with the idea and belief that college is possible. With that in mind, we are identifying a group of 50 Gear up Students from the local area to be a part of this program.
Presently, the MASFAA Early Awareness and Outreach committee is solidifying different exhibitors from various colleges and universities in the state to come and exhibit and speak to students about the many individual programs that students can explore and consider for college options. In the past, students have been able to visit with Veterinary students; Optometry students; Nursing students; Culinary Arts, and many other majors and certificate programs.
Each class session is 10 minutes long and each student gets introduced through a “hands on” experience on a prepared topic in an individual major or certificate program. The program also includes a guest speaker (who is usually a former Gear Up graduate) who concludes the program with motivational and inspiring remarks as to how the program has assisted them to get to college and achieve at a high level.
The program has proven successful and has been very appreciated by the Gear Up students within the state. We welcome any ideas that you may have for suggested majors or programs that this group of Gear Up Students may want to explore.
If you would like to e-mail your suggestions, please do so to one of the two Co-chairs of the MASFAA Early Awareness and Outreach Committee: Jean Berg or Kimberly Huse. |
