MASFAA’s
Professional Development and Training Committee is
off to a great start for the 2007-2008 year.
On August 16th, the committee hosted its annual FISAP
workshop at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
More than thirty people attended the workshop, which
gave
information on gathering and organizing information
for the FISAP, filling out the FISAP online, and the
latest
news on changes to financial aid from the Department
of Education.
The workshop began with a presentation
on the basics of the FISAP, geared towards financial
aid administrators
who were filling it out for the first time. Bernie
Pekala from Boston College and Eileen O’Leary
from Stonehill College presented the information. Next,
Tom Threlkeld
from the Department of Education gave a thorough
presentation on pending legislation, education budget
proposals,
and proposed program changes from the Department
of Education.
Finally, Bernie and Eileen finished the workshop
with a presentation on how to properly fill out the
FISAP,
and common mistakes to watch for. The Professional
Development and Training Committee would like to
thank all of the
presenters for their time and effort.
Next up for
the Committee is starting the nomination process
for the 2007-2008 Emerging Leaders program,
so if there’s someone in your office you’d
like to nominate, be on the lookout for an announcement
on
the Listserv soon! And of course, the Committee
will still be running training workshops throughout
the
year, including Needs Analysis, Learn from the
Directors, and
the Novice Workshop. If you have suggestions to
improve the workshops, or ideas on topics you’d
like to see covered, contact committee co-chairs
Jason
Burke and Abby McHugh anytime.
We’re looking
forward to another great year, and we encourage
the members of MASFAA to take advantage
of the training opportunities available to them.
