Every year, your President-Elect writes to you at
about this point in time, asking for nominations for
the awards announced at the Fall Conference. This year
is no exception. It has been a difficult year for the
profession, as our integrity and ethics have been questioned
by public officials and the media. Now is the time
put that behind us and acknowledge some outstanding
colleagues in an outstanding profession.
The awards
are:
MASFAA Presidential Award
This award recognizes service to MASFAA over the
course of the past year(s). An individual or an
organization can receive the award. The recipient
needs to have
served MASFAA over a period of time, and this important
contribution can be in the form of a single achievement
or a number of achievements.
Charles E. Jones Award
This award recognizes the achievements and development
of a new financial aid administrator, one who
has been in the profession for 3 or fewer years.
The
recipient
needs to demonstrate skills in leadership, communication,
professional development, decision-making, and/or
service to students and institutions.
The award
is named after a young man from the aid office
at Holy Cross whose life was tragically
cut short at
a young age due to cancer. It is MASFAA’s
tribute to him and the new members of our profession.
Charles “Jack” Sheehan
Distinguished Service Award
This award
is named for a long-standing member of the profession
who, in reality, helped to
develop financial
aid as we know it today. Over his life-time,
he was
an invaluable advisor to public officials, a
mentor to many of us in the profession, an advocate
for
students, and an active member in state, regional,
and national
aid associations. Although he lived a full life,
he is still missed by the many aid officers who
remember him.
The Jack Sheehan award recognizes
service to the financial aid profession. The recipient
will
exhibit
intelligence,
integrity, fairness, ingenuity, creativity,
humor, involuntary insomnia, and endless patience.
The
recipient will have provided an important contribution
to the
profession because of a commitment to the goal
of advancing the financial aid administrator
in the
financial aid
profession.
You must know colleagues who fit
into these categories and would make excellent award
recipients.
The
only restriction is that current officers
and Executive Council members are not eligible
to receive an
award.
The field, otherwise, is open. You may go
to the MASFA website to complete
and send in the nomination
form:
You may also email me directly with your
nomination. Be sure to specify the award
for which you
are submitting a nomination.
Nominations are
due by October 13, 2007.
Thank you
in advance for making this year’s
awards a success. |
