Carnival of Learning

By Jill D’Amico

ASA
Co-Chair, Early Awareness and Outreach Committee

The Early Awareness and Outreach Committee is hard at work planning its fall event, The Carnival of Learning. The Carnival is held each year on the eve of the annual MASFAA Conference at the conference site. This year we will be hosting approximately 75 Gear-Up students from Cape Code area middle-schools from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. at the Cape Codder Resort on November 14th.

During the event, middle-school student will visit booths staffed by college administrators and faculty who demonstrate how education beyond high school can tie in to each student’s career aspirations. Students will visit all of the booths, "graduate," and get their pictures taken in a cap and gown. Decorations and refreshments will create a real carnival-like atmosphere.

To cap off the day, we have invited back author and Harvard sophomore, Alejandro Gac-Artigas, our speaker from 2005. We are planning to deliver his book, Yo Alejandro, to the attendees prior to the event, so the children can prepare questions ahead of time. At the end of the talk, Alejandro will autograph copies of the book for the attendees.

Please check your e-mail for our recent request for donations! Also, any MASFAA member at the hotel Tuesday afternoon is more than welcome to come by and visit the Carnival.
