NASFAA - Dallas Martin Endowment

It gives me great pride to announce to you that NASFAA has officially begun its fundraising campaign for the Dallas Martin Endowment for Public Policy and Student Aid.

When we look back over the last three decades of financial aid work, it’s difficult to think of another person who has contributed more to helping students pay for college than Dallas Martin. He dedicated his career to helping students achieve their higher education goals. His was the constant voice of reason when legislation and regulations endangered equity in student aid. For 32 years as NASFAA’s president, he united the higher education community around the Association’s goals to increase access to higher education. Dallas was often referred to as “Washington’s most effective lobbyist” and his passion for the public policy and technical dimensions of student financial aid are still having positive impacts on students today.

But we are a long way off from reaching the goals that Dallas worked so diligently to achieve. Unfortunately, lack of funding still prevents many low-income, disadvantaged, and underrepresented students from attending college or completing their degrees. More must be done. More will be done!

The Dallas Martin Endowment for Public Policy and Student Aid will honor Dallas’s accomplishments by increasing our public policy and student aid efforts and growing the next generation of leaders in the student aid arena. Endowment funds will be used to support at least two, semester-length internships for upper-division undergraduate or graduate students who have an interest in student aid with a particular focus on policy analysis and/or research. The work of these interns will contribute significantly to the knowledge base and advocacy efforts of the financial aid community. DME funds will also be used to create an Information Resource Center and Library on Public Policy and Student Aid - the first of its kind in the United States.

Please join me in contributing to this worthy cause. As a 501(c)(3), all contributions to NASFAA are tax deductible. NASFAA will send receipts to all donors and publicly recognize them on the NASFAA Web site. Donations of $100 or more will be listed in the Student Aid Transcript and donations of $500 or more will be recognized on a commemorative plaque that will hang inside the newly constructed Resource Center and Library.

NASFAA will accept donations by check or credit card, as well as noncash donations such as tangible personal property, real estate, insurance policies, or stocks and other securities (in some cases, investors can avoid capital gains taxes by donating stocks to a charitable organization).

You can learn more about making a contribution on the Dallas Martin Endowment Web site.

There you will find:
